Story
The story of Claressa ‘T-Rex’ Shields, a boxer from Flint, Michigan, who trained to become the first woman in her country’s history to win an Olympic gold medal in the sport. In the film, Claressa’s father gets out of prison when she is sixteen and is training for the Olympics. In reality, Bo Shields left prison when she was nine and, after his release, got her interested in boxing.
However, runners, gymnasts, and swimmers do it with ease
T-Rex’s Version (2015). Honestly, I’m ashamed that I’ve never heard of Claressa Shields. How does she win two back-to-back and not become a household name?
Again, I couldn’t name a single successful Olympic boxer
This just goes to show that women have a long way to go, because if this were a man, I’m sure it would be different. Maybe I’m completely in the dark about a number of sports. Whatever it is, this movie highlighted a real problem that’s out there.
It was sad and embarrassing
As far as a sports movie goes, this one is interesting in that it’s not a prequel to her winning the gold, instead. that’s just the halfway point. It’s more about the struggle of what came next for Claressa after she became world champion.

I really enjoyed this movie, it’s worth your time, and it’s beautifully made. The acting by Ryan Destiny and Brian Henry is phenomenal! A wonderful surprise for my first screen unseen.
