Men and women live in a giant silo underground with few regulations that they believe can protect them from the toxic, broken world above. Whether they’re exploring the stars, escaping dystopias, or making the world a better place, these women are the stuff of science fiction. It’s an interesting story of an underground bunker of people who have survived underground for so long that a civilization has emerged within it, with sermons, myths, beliefs, rituals, and ceremonies rooted in events that are forgotten and create a status quo social structure. And when the status quo that preserves order is challenged, execution and punishment follow. A power structure develops that creates a stratified population, both figuratively and literally, from the top to the bottom of the silo. Good acting from Oyelowo with familiar faces in Rashida Jones and Will Patton. (As you can see from the show’s poster, though, they’re guest stars to make way for the regular cast with Rebecca Ferguson playing the lead role.) The show appears to be decent enough, with good production values. There are elaborate sets and good CGI for a believable atmosphere. While Suspicious Mind does spot some obvious conspiracies early on, there are mysteries yet to be revealed that will keep me on my toes.
